Video Transcript:
Hello friends. This is communication 17-004 - Welcome

Behind me you see the fabulous ArtScience Museum in Singapore that is shaped like a giant lotus flower. It is located at Marina Bay Sands complex.

Beginning on April 1, this year, the ArtScience Museum has a new exhibition called The Universe and Art which explores  humanity’s age-old fascination with the Universe through ancient and contemporary artworks including - I am happy to report - my Cosmic Dancer sculpture and the Ars Ad Astra exhibition both of which were sent to the Mir space station.

The Universe and Art examines humanity's fascination with the Universe and what lies beyond.

As the subject of dreams, mythologies and artistic explorations, the Universe has been studied by people around the world for millennia. Featuring over 120 artworks, scientific artifacts and manuscripts, this exhibition presents global views of the Universe through the centuries.

The show examines Eastern and Western philosophies, ancient and contemporary art, science and religion, to examine humanity’s origins, presence and future in the Universe.  The exhibition comes to Singapore after being developed and shown at the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo.

The exhibition is divided into four sections:

1.
The first section is called "Our Vision of the Universe" which  focuses on historical cosmologies from around the world. Religious art from the Buddhist, Hindu and Jain traditions show how we conceived the cosmos as multidimensional from the earliest of times.

Visitors will have the opportunity to view numerous unique first edition works by some of the most renowned astronomers of the Renaissance period – Copernicus, Galileo, Kepler and Newton.

2.
The second section  " The Universe as Space-Time "  shows new scientific advances and cosmological phenomena such as black holes,  dark matter  are explored through the works of contemporary artists. Depictions of new cutting-edge instruments designed to observe the Universe and the work by three of the world’s leading contemporary photographers will also be on display.

3.
In "A New View of Life" - the third section - explores the potential for life on other worlds has been a constant source of fascination for both artists and scientists alike. Contemporary depictions of alien worlds by internationally known artists will be shown alongside archaeological artifacts and graphic art.

4.
The fourth section - the one I am in is called " Space Art" extends the exhibition  with artworks designed specifically for the environment of space.  Highlights of this part of the show include my Cosmic Dancer sculpture and the Ars Ad Astra exhibition which were sent to the Mir space station in 1993 and 1995 and Takuro Osaka's  works on the ISS in 2009 and 2011.

Visitors can also see works by Kitsou Dubois and Dragan Zivadinov who have devised choreography and theatre performances based on their micro-gravity experiences during parabolic flights.

The show runs from April 1 until July 30th.

Links to the website and to the press release can be found in the show notes.

Also, if you want a comprehensive look at "art-in-space" please visit the "Art to the Stars"  page in the Interventions section of the Greater.Earth website where you will also find the "Culturalization of Space" database with over 400 listings recently including Eyal Gever 3D printed  "Laugh" sculpture and Eduardo Kac’s  "Inner Telescope" - both art works were "made in space " on the ISS last month.

I am not sure if I will make it to Singapore but I will certainly try. If you visit the show I would appreciate to know your impressions and opinions.

This has been communication 17-004.

I will be back soon with updates on my launch and the preparation for the Personal Structures exhibition during this year's Venice Art Biennale.

Thanks for watching.
Good bye for now
